My special guest today was Kelly Flint, formerly with Dave’s True Story and now working on her solo career. Kelly is participating in a benefit for the organization Autism Speaks that will be held at the Hillside Cafe in Nutley, NJ on July 21. For the first time in public, Kelly discussed her son’s autism in a moving discussion that turned out to be incredibly uplifting. In addition to being a wonderful singer and a great songwriter, Kelly has a gift for sharing very personal stories and engaging the radio audience.
I played a set of songs about life and the passing of time – a thought that has been on my mind as I approach my 50th birthday later this week.
Speaking of birthdays, we celebrated Arlo Guthrie’s 60th birthday with a few selections from his new CD. (Woody would have turned 95 this week, and I will be rebroadcasting the “Bound For Glory” presentation that we did at NERFA last fall on Sunday July 22nd at 3pm)
Other new recordings – a superb solo CD from John Roberts called “Sea Fever”. This has been years in the making! Anne Hills latest project ,” Ef You Don’t Watch Out”, is also another winner – a collection of songs based on the poems of James Whitcomb Riley. Also new and noteworthy – Eliza Gilkyson’s new live recording “In Your Town”.
