Today’s show featured a segment on Woody Guthrie. We heard Gene Shay with a superb report on the 2008 Woody Fest with performances from Judy Collins, John Gorka, Jimmy LaFave and others. I loved John Gorka’s “true story” about hopping freights with Woody!
In addition, I shared a recording of radio play that featured Woody. It was a PSA to warn rural audiences about the dangers of syphillis and the importance of seeking care. Recorded in the late 1940’s, the play featured Woody as “Rusty, The Lonesome Traveler” and was produced by Alan Lomax.
New and recommended – Bruce Cockburn – Slice O Life, Rod MacDonald – After the War, Ramblin Jack Elliot – A Stranger Here, and Rachel Hair – The Lucky Smile.
