WFDU-FM’s TRADITIONS playlist for Sept. 7, 2014
Today’s show featured a look at Anne Hills’ latest recording Tracks, a beautiful collection of songs inspired by trains. We also gave a birthday shout-out to one of Anne’s musical collaborators, Michael Smith. Another New Jersey lad makes good!
I also present a set of “Darling Corey” recordings, showcasing the variations on this old chestnut.
In addition to my hosting duties on WFDU, I am also the president of the Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, so we did a little sneak preview of an upcoming concert with Bill Staines and special guest Zoe Mulford. In another bit of self-promotion of sorts, I also did a set of jug band inspired tunes in honor of WFDU-FM’s newest program Sounds So Sweet a show dedicated to jug band music and hosted by my good friend and spiritual leader of the Dirdy Birdies Jug Band, Jack Pignatello.
New and noteworthy – The Goodbye Girls (self-titled), Mark Erelli (Milltowns)
(Tune in to TRADITIONS every Sunday from 2pm to 5pm Eastern Time over WFDU-FM 89.1 in the NYC/Northern New Jersey area, or on the web at www.wfdu.fm.or iHeartRadio.com. On-demand streams of shows, including this one, are archived for two weeks HERE. A Sing Out! Radio Partner.)
