TRADITIONS playlist for May 14, 2017
Re-broadcast Saturday May 20, 2017 on www.bluesandrootsradio.com
Mother’s Day is celebrated in song with music from Cathie Ryan, David Roth, Bing Futch and others. We featured a brand new song from Tom Chapin about Julia Ward Howe which will appear on a new CD that will be released in early summer.
The show also featured a tribute to singer-songwriter Sandy Ross, who passed away on May 6. Sandy was based out of Los Angeles, but she was a guest on Traditions a number of times over the years. Sandy was born in Phoenix, Arizona but moved to Los Angeles in the 1970s where she was a staff songwriter for Warner/Chappell Music. Her songs were recorded by popular artists of the period, including Kim Carnes and Anne Murray. She was a fixture on the LA music scene and booked performers at various Hollywood venues, including the Los Angeles Performing Arts and Folklife Festival and the acclaimed Bla-Bla Cafe.
