TRADITIONS playlist for April 30, 2017
Re-broadcast Saturday May 6 on www.bluesandrootsradio.com
By coincidence of their separate touring schedules, two outstanding artists joined me in the studio today – Alice Howe and Bing Futch.
Boston-based singer-songwriter Alice Howe recently released an impressive EP titled You’ve Been Away So Long that has received strong reviews and comparrisions to Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell and Kate Wolf. Alice performed some new and older songs and discussed her evolution as a song-writer.
2016 International Blues Challenge Finalist Winner Bing Futch displayed his musical shape shifting on the Applachian Dulcimer that has made Bing a welcome addition to festival stages across the nation. Bing travels 30,000 miles each year as he shares his blend of traditional and original styles.
Today’s show also paid tribute to Jerry Epstein, a former Vice President of the Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club and one of the guiding lights of the organization for decades. Ron shared some of Jerry’s recordings and honored Jerry’s dedication to helping performers through his love of folk music.
Also, new music from Joe Jencks, Harpeth Rising and more!
