About Ron Olesko

For over 40 years, Ron has been a radio programmer with WFDU-FM in Teaneck, New Jersey. In 2019 he created www.FolkMusicNotebook.com - a 24/7 Internet radio channel devoted to folk music and is available worldwide. Ron created WFDU-FM's TRADITIONS in 1980, a show that he continues to host and produce every Sunday afternoon from 3 to 6pm Eastern Time. He's the president of and booker for the Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, and is a regular contributor to Sing Out! as well as the host of the Folk Music Notebook blog on this site. Ron can also be found emceeing concerts and festivals around the NYC/NJ area.

  1. Ron, you’re an icon in Folk Music circles and rightfully so. One small example of your vision is your significant role in the emergence of The Cumberland Trio from the shadows to the shining light of the Folk scene. We’re deeply indebted to you, my friend and four albums later tell you none of our success in this millennium would have been possible without the feature three hour special Traditions show you were kind enough to air in us and our music from the Folk Era and the present millennium. Congratulations on your long and successful tenure at WFDU!!

  2. Ron, wonderful read and on the money. Too many people in radio do not see the opportunity to really be a part of the listening AND the music community. Only radio like yours can respond to what’s happening with music that is inspired by and directed to those events.
    Keep up the good fight. It may not seem like it, but we are affecting elections and the political culture of our country in a way that benefits everyone, not just the one percent.
