TRADITIONS playlist for April 16, 2017
Re-broadcast Saturday April 22 on www.bluesandrootsradio.com
This week’s show marked a personal anniversary for me, and also this radio series. On Easter Sunday, April 10, 1977, WFDU-FM aired the first one-on-one interview that I conducted for the station. It was also the first broadcast dedicated solely to folk music on WFDU.
The interview was with Marjorie Guthrie, Woody Guthrie‘s second wife and the founder of the Woody Guthrie Archives. She also created an organization that was dedicated to helping Huntingtons Disease families by advocating for research, improving patient care, and setting the seeds that led to the discovery of the Huntington’s marker and eventually a cure could be found. She was a remarkable woman and the experience of interviewing her and getting to know her really changed the direction of my life.
In addition, I shared the usual mix of classic folk songs and new music in the folk tradition, includiing songs from John McCutcheon, Guy Davis & Fabrizio Poggi, Dubl Handi, Elaine Romanelli, Dave Van Ronk and much more.
(Tune in to WFDU-FM’s TRADITIONS every Sunday from 3pm to 6pm Eastern Timeover WFDU-FM 89.1 in the NYC/Northern New Jersey area,or on the web at www.wfdu.fm or iHeartRadio.com. The show can also be heard Saturday evenings at 6:30pm ET at www.bluesandroots.radio.com. On-demand streams of shows, including this one, are archived for two weeks by clicking HERE.
