Join us in honoring Mike Seeger, American folk musician and folklorist, who passed away August 7, 2009 in Lexington, VA. Born to Charles and Ruth Crawford Seeger in New York City in 1933, Mike grew up in Maryland and Washington, DC along side his sister, Peggy and half brother, Pete, both folk musicians. In 1958, Mike Seeger co-founded the old time string band The New Lost City Ramblers with John Cohen and Tom Paley.
Mike Seeger has received six Grammy nominations and four grants from the National Endowment of the Arts. XM15 The Village pays tribute to Mike Seeger with an 80 minute special with host Mary Sue Twohy:
