Happy Traum first made records in 1962 with the New World Singers. His new one Just for the Love of It is one of the most thoroughly satisfying things he’s ever done. He’s lived with the fourteen songs here for ages, and they feel like they are part of him. And the title indicates he does these songs and made the record truly for the love of the doing. Larry Campbell’s co-production and playing on mandolin, fiddle and pedal steel is part of the album’s heart. End to end this is a most charming work of love and joy and wonderful performances. — MT
