A QUICKIE FOR THE WEEKEND
A couple of quick announcements:
This Sunday on WFDU-FM’s TRADITIONS I will present a “sneak preview” of a new CD project that features Loudon Wainwright III. Titled “High Wide & Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project” is a two CD set that explores countrymusic pioneer Charlie Poole.
Loudon and producer Dick Connette gathered some of the finest musicians of the New York acoustic music scene to record the project including Chris Thile, Rufus & Martha Wainwright, Geoff Muldaur, David Mansfield, Erik Friedlander and others. The resulting recording is an incredible collection of songs and performances. While Loudon might not be the first name you think of when you reflect on Charlie Poole, you will be fascinated by the similarities. This is not to be missed!
Also this Sunday, a lucky listener will win a pair of tickets(with camping!) to the upcoming Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. We will also preview music from some of the this year’s performers.
Speaking of Falcon Ridge, if you are attending this years event be sure to check out The Folk Arts Quartet. An ensemble of four young woman from the Berklee school of music, the quartet includes a perennial Canadian fiddle champ and a 2009 Fulbright scholar—who play a style they call “chambergrass.” They’re playing the Falcon Ridge fest, 7/23, 24.
A profile of Pete Seeger will be broadcast this weekend on CBS “Sunday Morning”. Check your local TV listing.
