Falcon Ridge preview and playlist for WFDU-FM’s TRADITIONS for July 27, 2014
WFDU-FM’s TRADITIONS
Playlist for July 27, 2014
HOST: Ron Olesko
With the month of July coming to a close, it means one thing to folkies – time for the annual Falcon Ridge Folk Festival! Falcon Ridge has become a magnet for folk fans in the northeast, and for the past month, we have been giving away weekend passes to this seminal event, celebrating the 26th edition this summer. The final hour of the program featured artists who are appearing at this years fest.
Today’s show also included sets of songs searching for peace. The situation in Gaza is polarizing people while creating much discussion in this country, and with it comes a feeling of hopelessness. While songs are not going to create immediate change in the world, they are powerful tools. Singing about peace and love may seem naive, but if we can begin developing the concepts within our own hearts and minds as individuals, perhaps change will inevitably come. It has to begin somewhere.
(Tune in to TRADITIONS every Sunday from 2pm to 5pm Eastern Time over WFDU-FM 89.1 in the NYC/Northern New Jersey area, or on the web at www.wfdu.fm. On-demand streams of shows, including this one, are archived for two weeks HERE. A Sing Out! Radio Partner.)
