TRADITIONS playlist for September 24, 2006 (A Tribute to Joe Glazer)
Playlist for September 24, 2006
HOST: Ron Olesko
(www.ronolesko.blogspot.com )On today’s show I paid tribute to the late Joe Glazer. When I started the program back in 1980, I remember writing to Joe looking for a LP and a few days later receiving a huge package that contained just about every Collector’s Record LP that he released. Those vinyl recordings received quite a bit of airplay over the years. It is wonderful to see that Smithsonian Folkways has received the collection and will make the music available to future generations. Joe Glazer was one of a kind, and he will be missed.
Today was also the 70th anniversary of the first Gold Star Mothers Day by playing a few songs that expressed a mother’s loss of her children to war, and a few songs that expressed a desire for peace. I hope the reason for this day becomes obsolete in the not too distant future.
This weeks highly recommended CD’s from: Tom Chapin, Anne Feeney, Greg Greenway, Keith Kendrick and the Devil’s Interval.
