Upcoming Festivals: Early May
May!? Already? There’s a ton of stuff going on this weekend (Honestly, there’s probably a MayDay festival located within driving distance from just about anywhere!) But here’s a sampling of some fests of note! If youāre in the Tennessee area, check out the Boxcar Pinion Memorial Bluegrass Fest, happening May 2-4 at Raccoon Mountain Campground in Chattanooga, TN. The festival is dedicated to the memory of Boxcar Pinion, a native Tennessean lover of bluegrass music. A range of jam sessions and formal concerts will occur over the course of the weekend. A three-day pass to the festival $70, but individual tickets for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are available at $15, $25, and $30 respectively. Named among the “top 10 events in Louisiana,” the festival features crawfish eating contests, crawfish racing, dance music, and a schedule of musical guests that spans the entire festival. Featured artists include Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys, Pine Leaf Boys, Travis Matte, Andre Thierry, Geno Delafosse & French Rockin’ Boogie, Roddie Romero, High Performance, and many more. This weekend in Texas, the 27th Annual Texas Scottish Festival runs May 3-5 at Maverick Stadium in Arlington, TX. Featured Celtic-rock group The Killdares will appear Friday evening from 9-11pm and Saturday from 4-5pm and 9:30-11pm. The festival celebrates Scottish heritage and serves Scottish traditional food as well as American festival food. Tickets are $12 Friday and Sunday, and $18 on Saturday, or $30 for a weekend pass. Donāt worry, U.K. readers, thereās a fun festival for you this weekend, too! The Upton Riverside Folk Fest will be held May 3-6 in Upton upon Severn, U.K. Featuring 40 traditional and modern folk music and dance groups and workshops, the festival promises to be fun for folk music lovers of all kinds. Tickets are Ā£48 for members and Ā£53 for others, with children under 14 admitted for free. Go to http://www.uptonfolk.org/index.html for the festivalās website.
