Folk from the UK 101
Episode #25-21 airing 05-21-25
Generations of singers have sung, played and loved the folk music found in the United Kingdom, and this week’s podcast features some examples. Collectors A.L. Lloyd and Ralph Vaughn Williams transcribed and recorded traditional music and made it available to all through the English Folk Dance and Song Society. We’ll listen to revivalist groups like The Watersons and the Copper Family and then examine the electric side of the style with Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention. We will conclude with some of the bright lights on today’s scene including Eliza Carthy and The Furrow Collective. A taste of old and new from the U.K. … this week on The Sing Out! Radio Magazine.
