RON OLESKO’S FOLK MUSIC NOTEBOOK CELEBRATES FIRST ANNIVERSARY
It is hard to believe that it has been a full year, but it was on June 26, 2006 that this website first went online. I’ve been having a great time putting this together and sharing news and information about the folk scene with all of you.
During the past year, the number of daily hits to this site has grown. Our hit counter shows over 12,000 visits to the site (a separate Google hit counter shows closer to 13,000 visits over the last 12 months) which astounds me. I am grateful to all of you who have visited the site. Many of you have subscribed via an RSS feed and it is always nice to see the comments that people have left. Thank you for your support!!!
Over the next few weeks, I hope to post more articles, reviews as well as festival/concert previews. The last few months have been very hectic for me, both personally and professionally. Many of you have read about the Hurdy Gurdy venue move, which has taken up considerable time. Now that we are set, I plan on posting more articles here. I hope to share several articles each week – and in the next few days you will find a review of the Old Songs Festival, reviews of of new CD’s from Anne Hills and John Roberts, plus an updated concert calendar. I will also share more historical articles, and stories behind the songs. The weekly Birthday and Anniversary Calendar will soon make a return. I also have a personal project that I have been working on, and I hope to be able to share the good news with you soon.
Folk music, and live music in general, needs your support. It is great that you listen on the radio or download songs on the Internet, but in order for the music to survive and perpetuate new devotees it will require your participation. Folk music is a communal experience and I urge you to look over the concert calendar on this site and attend a few shows. You won’t regret it.
I’ve save a piece of birthday cake for you. Thanks again for taking the time to visit this site and read my postings. I welcome your ideas, so please be sure to write. I promise that the next 12 months will be exciting. Please come back real soon.
sincerely,
Ron Olesko
