Podcast: Folk from the UK 101
Episode #17-30 | airing 7-26-17
This week on the Sing Out! Radio Magazine we continue our occasional feature exploring a specific style of music. This week we explore folk music from the UK. British folk music has been widely collected and housed in the English Folk Dance and Song Society. We’ll hear from one of the foremost collectors A.L. Lloyd who along with Ralph Vaughn Williams and others transcribed and recorded traditional music making it available to all.
We’ll also listen to some revivalist groups such as The Watersons and the Copper Family and later examine the electric side of the style with Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention. We will conclude with some of the bright lights on today’s scene including Eliza Carthy and The Furrow Collective.
Folk Music from the UK 101 on the next Sing Out! Radio Magazine.
