PETE SEEGER & FRIENDS AT FDU
It was a wonderful night for music at FDU. As previously mentioned on these pages, WFDU sponsored an awareness concert for the School of the America’s Watch (www.soaw.org ) that featured Pete Seeger and Friends. The friends included Kim & Reggie Harris, Bethany & Rufus, Martin Dull, John Dull and Ted Clancy.
Pete started the evening and performed for about 45 minutes. The 88 year old folk music icon was in good form and shared a number of songs including “Turn, Turn, Turn”, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, “Old Dan Tucker” and a number of other songs – some familiar and some rarely performed.
The near-sellout crowd thoroughly enjoyed the performance, as well as the sets from the other performers on the bill. Bethany & Rufus showed the audience that folk music is a living tradition and their take on classic folk songs opened new doors for theses songs.
Bethany Yarrow, daughter of Peter Yarrow, brought her daughter Valentina, who was nine months old today.
Kim and Reggie Harris closed the show with a set that included “Eyes on the Prize” and two Phil Och’s songs including “Changes”, and they led the entire cast (minuse Pete who had to return home) in a rousing version of “Study War No More”.
