PETE SEEGER BANJO HEAD AUCTION TO BENEFIT HAITIAN RELIEF EFFORTS
Here is a unique opportunity to own a piece of history – and most important – to do some real good in this world, at a time when it really needs some help.
Pete Seeger is auctioning his famous banjo head – the one inscribed “”This Machine Surrounds Hate And Forces It To Surrender” – to help aid the Haitian relief effort. Specifically, the money raised from this auction will benefit Dr. Wangari Muta Maathai.
Dr. Maathia, winner of the 2004 Nobel Peace prize (becoming the first African woman AND the first environmentalist to win the award), works in Kenya in the Green Belt Movement empowering women and planting trees in an environmental cause to create a self-sustaining community. Bringing the idea to Haiti will help insure a future for a country that needs such programs, even before the devastation from the earthquake.
As of 7pm on January 19th, the bidding has reached $2000. Surely it will go for considerably more, and it will help an entire nation.
