Mark Grobner and Ken Kolodner are both world class masters of the hammered dulcimer. Ken has performed and recorded with Helicon, Laura Risk, Elke Baker and his son Brad. Mark spends a good deal of his time bringing music into hospitals, nursing homes and hospices. He has presented on the topic of Music and Healing at a number of conferences and teaches and performs throughout the Midwest. Mark calls Ken his mentor but both players are equals on Sun Rise.

The recording features duet and solo pieces from Sweden, Ireland, Scotland, the Shetland Islands, Northumberland, Quebec and the U.S. It also includes includes two well known tunes by John Denver played in a solo setting by Mark.

It is remarkable how these two good friends compliment each other in the duo performances, creating a wonderful rolling sound. Sun Rise is a study in the fine art of the duet, an arrangement that is no simple task, but Mark Grobner and Ken Kolodner apply their years of experience and sensitivity to create a truly lovely recording.
