KLEZMATICS & GUTHRIE, DYLAN & SEEGER WIN “FOLK” GRAMMYS!
The 49th Annual Grammy Awards recognized “folk” music in several categories.
I was very happy to see the Klezmatics win the Grammy for Best Contemporary World Music Album for their CD “Wonder Wheel – Lyrics by Woody Guthrie“.
The Best Traditional Folk Album went to Bruce Springsteen‘s “We Shall Overcome — The Seeger Sessions“. The recording won over efforts by Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Odetta, Linda Ronstadt & Ann Savoy, and Ralph Stanley.
For Contemporary Folk Album, Bob Dylan took the honors for “Modern Times“. Other nominees in the category were Jackson Browne, Rosanne Cash, Guy Clark, and Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris.
Best Musical Album for Children went to folkie favorite Dan Zane for “Catch that Train!”.
