HURRICANE ARLO HITS NEW JERSEY
Yes, Arlo Guthrie and family have landed on the shores of the Garden State. Arlo’s current tour celebrates four generations of Guthries. In addition to playing some of his dad’s songs, Arlo will share the spotlight with his children and probably a few grandchildren as well.
For many years, Arlo’s son Abe has been a member of the band, and in recent years daughter Sarah Lee and her husband Johnny Irion have been a part of the tour. This time out, expect possible appearances by Arlo’s other daughters Cathy and Annie as well, plus whatever grandchildren are able to stay up past bedtime!
The”Family Legacy” tour is about halfway through. Recently they returned from Europe where they did shows in England, Denmark and Germany. A number of Woody Guthrie songs have been re-visited on this tour, and the word is that Arlo is planning on recording some of them when he returns to the studio sometime after Thanksgiving.
Tonight, the tour stops at the beautiful Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ. (Exit 109 off the GSP!). On Friday night (October 27) the tour heads north to Montclair, NJ for a return appearance at the Outpost in the Burbs (Exit 151 off the GSP). The last leg of the this NJ visit will take place on Saturday night at the historic Music Pier in Ocean City, NJ(exits 30 to 25 off the GSP!).
After leaving New Jersey, Arlo & family will travel to the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, PA on Sunday and on Wednesday November 1 they will appear at the Ridgefield Playhouse in Ridgefield, CT. The next area appearance will be the annual Carnegie Hall concert on Saturday November 25th.
An Arlo Guthrie concert is a family affair – not just for the performers but also for the audience. It is common to see several generations sitting together enjoying the music. For people of my age, Arlo will be the eternal teenager of our youth – but his appeal reaches across generation gaps to create an experience that all enjoy. Don’t miss Arlo & crew! (I think they may need a bigger bus!)
