HURDY GURDY GALA SEASON OPENER SATURDAY NIGHT
Opening night. Klieg lights, red carpets, fancy designer dresses and tuxedos, papparazi, Paris Hilton, television news crews.
Well, please do not expect any of those items at the Fair Lawn Community Center on Saturday night when the Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club kicks off our 28th season of acoustic concerts. What you will find is a gathering of enthusiastic fans, a beautiful venue, hard working volunteers, and first class musicians that will provide an incredible evening of your favorite music!!!
The Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club will kick off our 28th season with a concert featuring Silk City and special Roger Deitz. The concert will begin at 8:00pm at the Fair Lawn Community Center. Advance tickets are available online at www.hurdygurdyfolk.org and they will also be available at the door on the night of the show.
Silk City is a string band trio that features Barry Mitterhoff, Danny Weiss & Larry Cohen. Performing on mandolin, guitar and bass, Silk City blends a variety of styles including hard-driving bluegrass, wide-ranging ethnic music, original vocals and instrumentals and audience favorites like the “Wizard of Oz Medley”.
Barry Mitterhoff’s stellar mandolin styling, Danny Weiss’ heartfelt guitar and vocals, and Larry Cohen’s propulsive bass combine to produce a fresh and exciting band sound that reflects the polish of musicians who have performed together for many years, recently as the rhythmic heart of Skyline.
Opening for Silk City will be Roger Deitz . A native of Clifton, New Jersey, Roger helped advance New Jersey’s folk scene in the 1980s as program director of The June Days Folk Festival and the Closing Circle Coffeehouse for the Folk Music Society of Northern New Jersey. Roger is a musician and writer with acerbic wit and a traditional flavor that fits with other songs of the folk legacy. Roger is a regular contributor to such music publications as Billboard, Sing Out! and Acoustic Guitar.
The Fair Lawn Community Center is located at 10-10 20th Street in Fair Lawn, NJ. Tickets for this concert are only $20 ($17 for Hurdy Gurdy members) and can be p urchased online at www.hurdygurdyfolk.org or at the box office at the Fair Lawn Community Center on the night of the concert.
