HIGHLANDS MUSIC FESTIVAL – NEW VENUE
This just in…
The Highlands Music Festival, which will be taking place today – Sunday August 6 – has been moved to a new location.
The original location, Camp Ocawasin in West Milford, reportedly approaced the festival organizers on Friday with an increased rental fee as well as a request for liability insurance. The festival was held at the camp back in 2004. (According to festival organizers, this was the first time they were asked for liability insurance. My opinion is that insurance should be standard practice for all event organizers.)
The festival will now be held at the West Milford Elks Lodge, located at 1860 Union Valley Road in West Milford, NJ. The festival will begin at noon and run until 6pm.
Performers include The Kennedys, Spook Handy and Gaia Wolf. The festival is produced by Highlands Peace Action, a group that grew out of the 49 year old organization New Jersey Peace Action.
I highly recommend this festival. In addition to the wonderful music, the cause is certainly important. Having the festival held at an Elks Lodge, an organization that has been given a reputation as being conservative, helps bridge differences and promotes understanding.
Check out the event if you are in the area. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children. For more information phone 973 291-4847.
