It has been a few years since David Mallett shared his music with us, and we are looking forward to his November 3rd appearance at our new location – the Fair Lawn Community Center.
The Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club and the Borough of Fair Lawn will present acclaimed singer-songwriter David Mallett with special guest Joe Jencks at 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at the Fair Lawn Community Center.
David Mallett performs traditional folk songs, ballads, and lovesongs as well as his own compositions such as his classic “The Garden Song” (also known as “Inch by Inch“), “Summer of My Dreams“,and “Red Red Rose“. His songs have been sung and recorded by well-known artists throughout the world including Emmy Lou Harris, Alison Krauss, Pete Seeger and even the Muppets.
This summer David released a new CD – “The Fable True” – a spoken word and instrumental celebration of Henry David Thoreau’s excursions to Maine. Utilizing over 20 excerpts from Thoreau’s The Maine Woods, the album commemorates the 150th anniversary of Thoreau’s final excursion to Maine in 1857.
Opening the evening will be singer-songwriter Joe Jencks. Jencks is conservatory trained and has a warm, smooth powerful voice. Many of his songs are about working people and social consciousness in the tradition of Pete Seeger.
