Benefit Concert for NYC Folk Music Exhibit
A benefit concert featuring Pete Seeger and other folk singers, musicians and writers will be held at the New York Academy of Medicine on Thursday, June 20th. The concert will benefit an upcoming folk music exhibit, “Folk City,” on display at the Museum of the City of New York in 2014.
The benefit concert will feature first rate entertainment from Host John Wesley Harding, Peter Yarrow, Lucy Kaplansky, Langhorne Slim, AC Newman, Josh White Jr., David Hajdu, Izzy Young, David Amram, Oscar Brand and Happy Traum. Pete Seeger will be serving as the event’s honorary chair.
Funds raised by the concert will benefit the upcoming Museum of the City of New York exhibit, “Folk City: New York and the American Folk Music Revival.” The exhibit explores New York City’s influence in the folk music revival. Special attention will be paid to Greenwich Village, the cultural hub of the movement. The exhibit will feature an array of multi-media displays, which will trace the movement’s history and pivotal artists and individuals of the era. The exhibit is scheduled to debut at some point in 2014.
The Museum of the City of New York is located at 1220 Fifth Ave, Manhattan. Established in 1923, the goal of the museum is to enlighten the New York public about the regions unique aspects, and expound upon lesser known, and under appreciated traits of the city. Additionally, the North East Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) has announced that it will be co-sponsoring the benefit concert.
