Those of you who live in the sleepy boroughs of Bergenfield, Dumont or New Milford may have noticed an article about yours truly in this weeks paper. (Note to self – find out why they call it the Twin Boro News when they are serving three towns.) I would like to thank Steve Kellman for writing such a flattering article. Steve has been a friend to folk music in this area for many years now, and I truly appreciate the help he has given to me in promoting WFDU and Hurdy Gurdy events.
I would also like to thank the brilliant photographer who snapped my picture – my son John! He really captured a face made for radio!!!
The story focused on our recent “Bound For Glory” broadcast. Information about the program, as well as pictures, can be found here and here .

For those of you who are new to this website, please take a few minutes to check our archives (located in the right hand column of the homepage). I began this site in June and it is still a work in progress. The goal is to help promote folk music events in the NJ/NYC area, but I also include CD reviews and news of interest to the entire folk music community. For those of you who are visiting this site and are not really “folk” fans, please browse around and I think you might be surprised. Folk music is not the stereotyped genre that is often played out in the mainstream media. There are some wonderful songwriters out there who are on the doorstep of greater recognition. I think you will find something to your liking! Enjoy the journey!

This Sunday on
WFDU-FM’s Traditions (89.1FM – 3 to 6pM) , my special guest will be
Debra Cowan and
John O’Connor. Debra and John will be appearing at the
People’s Voice Cafe in NYC on December 16.
Deb has become a fixture on Traditions. I think she is one of the finest interpreters of traditional music on the folk circuit. Her stunning voice and passion for the music can breathe new life into classic songs. In addition, Deb mixes in some moving contemporary songs as well. Always a treat!
I’m really honored that John O’Connor will be joining us. Back in the 80’s, John released the first of his solo albums. One of the founding members of Shay’s Rebellion, John’s music speaks of the struggles and triumphs of the American working class. His songs are being sung by other artists across the globe. He is also one of founding members of Local 1000 of the American Federation of Musicians. John does not tour anymore, so it is a rare treat to have him visit our show. Please don’t miss it!!!
