ARE YOU READY FOR THE WEEKEND?
So much to do, so little time.
As previously mentioned (numerous times!), the Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club will open on Saturday night at our new home – the Fair Lawn Community Center. The Arrogant Worms and special guests The Second Fiddles will kick off our season at 8:00pm.
There was a nice article about the Hurdy Gurdy in today’s edition (Sept. 14) of the Star-Ledger. here is a link.
Tickets sales have been picking up over the last couple of days, but we still expect to have seats available at the door. If you would like to insure that you will have a ticket- you can order online with a credit card. Visit our website at www.hurdygurdyfolk.org and click on the “Ticket Orders” page.
We hope to see you there!!! It should be a memorable evening!
If I wasn’t already occupied on Saturday evening, I would surely be attending the John Sebastian concert at Sanctuary Concerts at the Presbyterian Church located at 240 Southern Boulevard in Chatham, NJ . I understand that this concert is almost sold out, so contact them soon!
The organization, under the guidance of Scott Sheldon, has done an incredible job over the past several years of growing the folk music audience in Central NJ. I wish them the best of luck for another successful season!
Folk music needs your support! Don’t sit home on a Saturday night – go out and see a live show and keep the tradition alive!!!!
Speaking of Traditions, I am honored to have two exciting guests on my program this Sunday – September 16th.
Joining me during the 4pm hour will be Long Island based singer-songwriter James O’Malley.
This will be my first opportunity to sit down and chat with James who has appeared with The Kennedys, Richard Shindell, Lucy Kaplansky, Tracy Grammer, Carolyn Cruso, Tom Pacheco, Caroline Herring, Buddy Mondlock, Janis Ian, Louise Taylor, Chuck Pyle, Cheryl Wheeler, Lynn Miles, Jack Williams, along with many other talented artists. James will perform live in the studio.
During the 5pm hour, we will welcome David Massengill back to our show. David has been on the program a number of times over the years, and this appearance promises to be really special.
David is about to release a new CD called “Dave on Dave”. The CD is a tribute to Dave Van Ronk, a mentor and close friend to David Massengill. David sings many of the songs that are closely associated with the late Van Ronk, plus there are a couple of original songs about the legendary artist that Massengill has written. David will premiere songs from the new CD as well as perform a few live in our studio.
In addition, we will share some new recordings including a “duet” with Pete Seeger and Bruce Springsteen. Tentatively, we will hear selections from a new CD release that features a live concert recording from 1949 by Woody Guthrie. This is the only known concert recording of the folk music legend and the new CD is sure to be special.
WFDU-FM’s Traditions can be heard ove 89.1, WFDU-FM from 3 to 6pm ET on Sundays. You can also listen online at http://www.wfdu.fm/ .
Enjoy your weekend –
