The recipients of the Awards for excellence in Historical Recorded Sound Research of the twenty-first annual ARSC (Association for Recorded Sound Collections) award ceremony have been announced.  Recipients for works in History  include Lightnin’ Hopkins: His Life and Blues, by Alan Govenar (A Capella Press)  in Recorded blues, Rhythm & Blues, or Soul Music; Adolph Busch: The Life of an Honest Musician, by Tully Potter (Toccata Press) in Recorded Classical Music; My Name Is Gauhar Jaan!  The Life and Times of a Musician, by Vikram Sampath (Rupa Publications) in Recorded Country, Ethnic, or Folk Music; Restless Giant: The Life and Times of Jean Aberback & Hill and Range Songs, by Bar Biszick-Lockwood (University of Illinois Press) in Recorded Rock or Popular Music; That’s Got ‘Em!  The Life and Music of Wilbur C. Sweatman, by Mark Berresford (University Press of Mississippi) in Recorded Jazz Music; House of Hits: The Story of Houston’s Gold Star/Sugar Hill Recording Studios, by Andy Bradley and Charles Roger Wood (University of Texas Press) in Record Labels; and The Lindstrom Project: Contributions to the History of the Record Industry/Beitrage zxur Geschiachte der Schallplattenindustrie, Volume 2, by Pekka Gronow and Christriane Hofer (Gesellshaft fur Historische Tontrager) in Business of Recorded Sound.  Peter Fulop (Doremi) was awarded Best Discography for Mahler Discography in Recorded Classical Music.  Michael Gray has received the Lifetime Achievement Award.  Judith McCulloh has received the Award for Distinguished Service to Historical Recordings.  For more information or to see recipients of Certificates of Merit, visit arsc-audio.org.
