MARIA MULDAUR: Steady Love
MARIA MULDAUR
Steady Love
Stony Plain 1346
With the exception of a stunning makeover of blues poet Percy Mayfieldâs signature song âPlease Send Me Someone To Love,â all thirteen tracks on Muldaurâs latest were recorded in New Orleans in riveting collaboration with some of her favorite Crescent City musicians: keyboardist Dave Torkanowsky, guitarist Shane Theriot, bassist Johnny Allen and drummer Kenny Blevins among them. Others include slide guitar maven Rick Vito (on his own gospel-limned composition âI Am Not Aloneâ) and Muldaurâs fetching daughter, Jenni, who adds harmony vocals on a melancholy interpretation of the Midnightersâ RnB classic âRain Down Tears.â Other gems encompass a pair of superb Greg Brown covers (the rockabilly-edged âBlues Go Walkingâ and a Memphis soul-accented âSteady Loveâ), the tambourine-rimmed recall of Reverend W.H. Brewsterâs classic âAs An Eagle Stirreth In Her Nest,â a resolutely panoramic version of Stephen Brutonâs sagacious commentary âWalk By Faithâ and a reprise of Arthur Adamsâ witty cell-phone-blues titled âGet You Next To Me.â The Even Dozen and Jim Kweskin Jug Band veteran is still at the top of her game!
