WHAT A NIGHT! HURDY GURDY FOLK MUSIC CLUB NEWS – AND MORE!
< - The Dave Rowe Trio relaxing after an outstanding performance at the Hurdy Gurdy in Fair Lawn
What an evening at the Hurdy Gurdy! Outstanding performances from the Dave Rowe Trio and Caroline Doctorow! Another well-attended concert at our new home in Fair Lawn! Everyone had a great time!
What else can I say? If you missed the concert Saturday night, I urge you to visit the website of the Dave Rowe Trio (http://www.daverowetrio.com/) and pickup a CD or two (or three). I personally recommend their latest CD “Three’s A Charm” which captures not only the excitement of their live performance, but also is a testament to the craftsmanship that they have developed since forming this group in 2004. The Hurdy Gurdy was the first New Jersey venue the group played, and since that time in 2005 the group has expanded their repertoire – and their fan base.
Nothing beats an evening of great music shared with an enthusiastic crowd!I’d like to thank everyone who came to last night’s show, and also to thank both the Dave Rowe Trio and Caroline Doctorow (www.carolinedoctorow.com). Caroline and her band traveled from Long Island to share their brand of music – a beautiful blend of folk-rock classics and creative originals – all wrapped around Caroline’s haunting vocals. We look forward to hearing more from her!

We’ve added the group The Dirty Stay Out Skifflers to the Hurdy Gurdy lineup. The trio will be opening for Ronny Cox on Saturday April 5th. The Dirty Stay Out Skifflers play jug band, old timey, blues, folk, country and a variety of other styles of music. The band includes Dan Berger on harmonica, Rick Nestler (a long-time friend and the writer of the song “River That Flows Both Ways” which has been recorded by the Hudson River Sloop Singers as well as Pete Seeger) on 12 string guitar and vocals and Donna Nestler on banjolele, washboard, kazoo and vocals. Well known as energetic and talented performers both individually and collectively, they will get you up and moving.
Appearing will be Canadian singer-songwriter Eve Goldberg, and we had hoped to also present another wonderful Canadian talent – Dan McKinnon. Unfortuanetly Dan had to cancel the trip, and we hope to bring him to ourstage in the future.
We are excited to announce that joining Eve Goldberg on our schedule will be Thea Hopkins.
