< – The Dave Rowe Trio relaxing after an outstanding performance at the Hurdy Gurdy in Fair Lawn
What an evening at the Hurdy Gurdy! Outstanding performances from the Dave Rowe Trio and Caroline Doctorow! Another well-attended concert at our new home in Fair Lawn! Everyone had a great time!
What else can I say? If you missed the concert Saturday night, I urge you to visit the website of the Dave Rowe Trio (http://www.daverowetrio.com/) and pickup a CD or two (or three). I personally recommend their latest CD “Three’s A Charm” which captures not only the excitement of their live performance, but also is a testament to the craftsmanship that they have developed since forming this group in 2004. The Hurdy Gurdy was the first New Jersey venue the group played, and since that time in 2005 the group has expanded their repertoire – and their fan base.
Nothing beats an evening of great music shared with an enthusiastic crowd!I’d like to thank everyone who came to last night’s show, and also to thank both the Dave Rowe Trio and Caroline Doctorow (www.carolinedoctorow.com). Caroline and her band traveled from Long Island to share their brand of music – a beautiful blend of folk-rock classics and creative originals – all wrapped around Caroline’s haunting vocals. We look forward to hearing more from her!

Another schedule change. On Saturday May 3rd, the Hurdy Gurdy is offering a special evening of music. We’ve lowered our ticket prices and will be presenting a “co-bill” – two exciting singer-songwriters who are not yet household names, but are artists that you will want to hear! We are presenting this show as part of our organization’s goal to help perpetuate “folk” music and to offer a stage to new talent.
Appearing will be Canadian singer-songwriter Eve Goldberg, and we had hoped to also present another wonderful Canadian talent – Dan McKinnon. Unfortuanetly Dan had to cancel the trip, and we hope to bring him to ourstage in the future.
We are excited to announce that joining Eve Goldberg on our schedule will be Thea Hopkins.
Critically acclaimed Boston
singer- songwriter Thea Hopkins calls her music American Short Story Folk: concise, striking narratives, they tell of American romance and tragedy in modern terms. In 2004, folk icons Peter, Paul & Mary recorded one of her songs, “Jesus Is On The Wire” on their album “In These Times,” and described the song as a “compelling composition with a riveting story-telling style. This is one of the most important songs we have sung in recent years.” In 2004, Thea’s song “Western Town” was included in the CD “The Best of Boston Songwriters.” In 2003, 2004,2005 and 2006 Thea received ASCAP Plus awards for song-writing. Thea was named as a finalist in the 2004 Boston Folk Festival songwriter contest. There were 350 entries. She won 2nd place in the contest. She was a semi-finalist in the 2005 International Songwriting Competition.Tickets for this special evening are only $17 ($15 for Hurdy Gurdy members) and are now onsale at http://www.hurdygurdyfolk.org/.
