TOMMY MAKEM 1932-2007
Tommy Makem passed away on Wednesday after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 74. Fans of folk music will always remember Tommy as the bard who helped introduced Irish folk music to a wider audience. Tommy performed for the better part of five decades, and his legacy will continue on through his sons as well as the numerous musicians that he inspired.
This week’s THE SESSION has been prerecorded while I am on vacation, but I will offer a tribute to Tommy on TRADITIONS this Sunday August 5th at 4pm. An additional hour of Tommy’s music will be heard THE SESSION the following Friday.
Our condolences to the Makem family. Tommy will be remembered warmly by all who saw him perform or had the opportunity to meet him. I will always cherish his memorable performances at the Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club.
Condolences and Mass Cards can be sent to PO Box 336, Dover, NH 03821-0336
