Tom Druckenmiller Takes Over Sing Out! Radio Magazine
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Bethlehem, PA – June 10, 2011 — Commencing with show #11-24, airing the week starting June 15th, banjo-player, teacher, writer and radio host Tom Druckenmiller will be taking over hosting duties for The Sing Out! Radio Magazine from the show’s founder Matt Watroba, who has moved over to duties as both a producer and host at FolkAlley.com.
“Matt has been an extraordinary part of the Sing Out! family for several decades,” notes executive director Mark D. Moss, “and we had hoped that he would be able to continue hosting The Radio Magazine along with his new duties at FolkAlley.com … but, unfortunately, those new duties have grown to include a lot of on-air hosting, and there simply weren’t enough hours in the day for Matt to be able to continue with our show and fulfill his new commitments to FolkAlley. Fortunately, we didn’t need to look far for a voice and a vision that could carry on the impressive work that Matt has done!”
Tom Druckenmiller, like Watroba, has a long history with Sing Out! as a writer and regular contributor (for more than a decade) and deep and rich skills as a radio host and programmer of folk and roots music! Druckenmiller has been a folk musician and teacher for over forty years. He began playing and singing Bob Dylan and Tom Paxton songs, but fell in love with old-time music and the clawhammer banjo after hearing John McCutcheon at the legendary Bethlehem folk club Godfrey Daniels. He has studied with old-time music greats Dwight Diller, Riley Baugus and Norman and Nancy Blake … and has, himself, taught at many music camps and workshops including The Augusta Heritage Workshops (in Elkins WV), the Pocono Dulcimer Fest (in Stroudsburg PA) and the Maidencreek Old-Time Music Festival (in Blandon PA). Druckemiller’s continuing regular local radio gig “In The Tradition” has aired on WDIY-FM in Allentown PA for the past 16 years, and he also co-hosts the “Sunday Folk” program on the station.
“I’m grateful for the tremendous work that Matt has done with the Radio Magazine since it’s inception, and am honored to build on his great work in the years to come,” offered Druckenmiller, “I look forward to working with Mark and the folks at Sing Out! to help make the Radio Magazine both an integral part of the work that Sing Out! does and a service to the folk community in general!”
