Stories of MIRSE
This year, Guitars In The Classroom began exploring the benefits of making music with students who have special challenges and needs by reaching out with training to special educators and therapists. This name of this project is MIRSE. It is an acronym (pronounced “mercy”) that stands for Music Integration for Resource and Special Educators. The book Stories of MIRSE presents the first set of stories about the miracles some of GITC’s trainers and teachers have helped to bring about with students affected by medical conditions such as traumatic brain injury, and cerebral palsy, emotional problems stemming from abuse, neglect, poverty and homelessness in addition to biochemical imbalances, and learning disabilities from Attention Deficit to Dyslexia and Autism.
