STAN ROGERS DOCUMENTARY TO BE RE-BROADCAST ON WFDU-FM
June 2 will mark the 25th anniversary of the death of Stan Rogers. Stan died in a tragic plane fire as he was flying home to Canada after performing at the Kerrville Folk Festival. In the 25 years since his passing, a new legion of fans have grown up with his music. His story has grown to legendary proportions, often mixing fantasy with fact.
In 2003, on the 20th anniversary of his death, I produced a radio documentary “Remembering Stan Rogers“, a look at the music and life of Stan Rogers with commentary from his family and friends, and Stan himself.
WFDU will re-broadcast the program this Sunday, June 1 from 3 to 6pm ET on WFDU-FM. Listeners in the NYC area can tune in at 89.1, or you can listen online at http://www.wfdu.fm/.
The program includes excerpts from two programs that Stan recorded at the WFDU-FM studios back in 1982. Stan visited with Shirley Keller for her program “The Folk People“. Shirley no longer hosts a show, but she graciously lent me the tapes to include in this special. In addition, we will hear memories from his widow Ariel, his producer/musician/friend Paul Mills and musician/friend Grit Laskin.
While the program will be a documentary, we will feature a wealth of music from Stan – full songs, not just snippets. The primary focus will be on Stans music. You can listen in through our website at www.wfdu.fm .
