Our dear friends Sparky and Rhonda Rucker were recognized this past March with the “Howard ‘Louie Bluie’ Armstrong Legacy Award” at the Symposium on Affrilachia held at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Internationally acclaimed folk musicians who have been weaving history and storytelling into their performances for decades, Sparky and Rhonda’s music weaves together old-time traditionals, Civil War songs, blues, and Appalachian songs with terrific energy and conscience. Sparky plays guitar, banjo, and spoons, and Rhonda plays harmonica and adds vocal harmony. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!!
