SORM Playlist #15-21: The Alan Lomax Legacy
(airing the week starting 5-20-15)
This week we conclude our two part feature noting Alan Lomax’s 100th birthday with some music recorded in the late 1950’s from Almeda Riddle, E.C. Ball and Bessie Jones and the Sea Island Singers. We’ll also hear some of the earliest recordings of Muddy Waters and Son House and an interview with Jelly Roll Morton. We’ll include a selection from Blues in the Mississippi Night recorded in 1947 with Memphis Slim, Big Bill Broonzy and Sonny Boy Williamson. The program concludes with 3 selections from the Sounds of the South series recorded for Atlantic Records in 1959 on some brand new stereo recording equipment.
