Boise, ID’s Charlie Sutton is one of those songwriters whose work feels intimate and familiar on first listen without ever getting stale. While he’s currently working with the more blues-tinged Curtis/Sutton & the Scavengers, the solo material he shares on Soundcloud is charming but subtle folk-pop, frequently with an easy country feel. ‘High Desert’ is a real winner, a contemplation on rural life set off with beautiful harmonies, a softly fingerpicked banjo, and a few unexpected but lovely chord changes. Enjoy.
