Bert Jansch Passes
We’ve received the incredibly sad news that legendary folk musician and Pentangle founder Bert Jansch has passed away this morning in London after a battle with lung cancer. An adroit songwriter and guitarist, Jansch’s career began with his co-founding the jazzy folk group Pentangle and sprouted into a long-lasting relationship with folk music and a pivotal role in the folk-revival era. His guitar prowess garnered a huge fanbase, including Neil Young, who lauded Jansch: “Bert Jansch is the best acoustic guitarist … for acoustic guitar, Bert Jansch is on the same level as Jimi.” Jansch’s final live performance was in London’s Royal Festival Hall on August 1st of this year, at a Pentangle reunion concert. He is survived by his wife, Loren, his son, Adam, and thousands of loving fans. Rest in peace.
