Mr. Hairston was a friend of the regular director, K. As a senior in a Utah high school in 1973; I was honored to participate in the All State Choir &amp; Band Concert held yearly in Salt Lake City during the UEA convention here. That year, for the first time ever; there was an African American Choir director in the Mormon Tabernacle. That man was Jester Hairston! We

    • I too experienced and enjoyed the pleasure of singing under Jester Hairston as he lead the Utah youth All State Choir in the Mormon Tabernacle. I loved those spirituals and his jokes.
