GRAMMYs cut categories, honor Woody
The Grammy Awards have made some significant changes, and it’s left some fans very unhappy. The recent cut of 31 award categories has left several genres in tatters. The Native American category was cut entirely, contemporary and traditional folk music categories were consolidated, styles like Zydeco and Hawaiian were rebranded as part of American Roots. For more information on the category changes, see the link below.
However, with the bad comes some good: The Grammy Museum has announced that it will be celebrating the Woody Guthrie Centennial in 2012 in conjunction with Woody Guthrie Publications, Inc. and the Woody Guthrie Archives. The celebration will kick of in February of 2012. The year-long celebration features educational seminars, special tribute concerts, a touring exhibit and plenty of other fun and informative activities. Each planned function will be announced through a special anniversary website.
