UTAH PHILLIPS PASSES
BRUCE “UTAH” PHILLIPS1935 – 2008
Bruce “Utah” Phillips passed away in his sleep last night. As readers of this website know, his health had been failing. Diagnosed with congestive heart failure a number of years ago, we all felt that Utah would prove the doctors prognosis would be wrong and we would be lucky to have him with us for many more years. We were all looking forward to the wonderful memoir that he was planning to write and hoping for one more ride on the rails. His heart finally gave out after so many years of sharing his soul with us. We are grateful to have his songs, memories and a spirit that touched anyone who ever had the opportunity to hear him.
I will pay tribute to this extraordinary man on WFDU–FM’s TRADITIONS tomorrow (Sunday May 25) between 3 and 6pm.
