  1. Nothing like a healthy dose of truth telling to spoil the party. For example, Vermont-based author Ron Jacobs, wrote that Bernie Sanders enthusiastically supported the bombing campaign of Yugoslavia in 1999, voted to create the surveillance state Nazi-sounding “Department of Homeland Security”, voted for the Authorization of Military Force (AUMF I), later voting to make certain provisions of the Orwellian-named “Patriot Act” permanent, supported the F-35 base in Vermont despite great public opposition. See “Bernie Sanders Cannot Save Us” by Ron Jacobs in CounterPunch 6-27-14 http://www.counterpunch.org/2014/06/27/bernie-sanders-cannot-save-us
Jacobs writes: “He continued authorizing grants and loans to Israel, even after Israel bombed Gaza, attacked the Mavi Marmara humanitarian-aid ship, and supported more illegal settlements in the West Bank. Most recently, Sanders joined ninety-seven other Senators and approved a $1 billion aid package to the coup government in Ukraine, a package that (when combined with International Monetary Fund loans) will most certainly further impoverish Ukrainian working people.” For these post 9/11 times, sing a round of “Love Me I’m A Liberal 2011” with me! • With all due respect, and speaking as a fellow citizen and *not* as the web master here: The deification of *any* candidate would likely be riddled with more holes than a brick of swiss cheese at the target end of a shooting gallery. But what is your point? Give up and vote for Ted Cruz? Only vote for a candidate that is pure, perfect and 100% aligned with progressive values, without any deviation, and without any consideration for the circumstances and governing realities surrounding every single vote? Without disputing any of the issues you raise, I’ve got to say that I find the tone of and message in your post to be stunningly naive and mostly empty. Bernie is *not* a perfect candidate. But while there are a lot of questions as to whether he could possibly win the Democratic nomination, there is *no* question that his candidacy is the fuel that has brought more progressive values into the discussion than any other … and that probably would be true even if we include the past 5-6 election cycles. That fact is a little bit of “truth telling” to spoil *your* “purity” party.

P.S. The original post was carefully written to *not* support (or not support) the Sanders candidacy … just to unearth and share the intersection between the candidate and what we do here at Sing Out! When Chris Christie releases his version of “On Top of Old Smokey,” we’ll probably share that, too.
