About David Cantor

Born in Philadelphia in 1954, David Cantor first performed in public at age seven: Accompanied by family members, he toted his baritone ukulele into the famous Gilded Cage coffeehouse during off hours and serenaded several newspaper-readers and cigarette-smokers with “The Ballad of Jesse James” as taught to him by the late George Britton, himself a folk-music institution and co-founder of the Philadelphia Folksong Society. Cantor has played throughout his life, developing a sizeable repertoire of traditional ballads and contemporary songs, writing a few himself, and taking up classic rock in recent years for the high-school reunion band he formed with longtime friends. In 2006, he released his music CD Songs of Now and Then, available at CDbaby.com. Running the nonprofit Responsible Policies for Animals from his home office, he resides in Glenside, Pennsylvania, with his spouse of 35 years, Elizabeth Holt, a professional musician.
