Sing Out!’s book division actually consists of two distinct programs, Since 1988, we have been producing the broadly acclaimed line of folk music songbooks under the Sing Out! Publications imprint. Titles we have released include Rise Up Singing, our Collected Reprints series, the Civil Rights collection Sing For Freedom, Pete Seeger’s “musical autobiography” Where Have All the Flowers Gone, and others. Each of these titles draw from the rich and broad range of music that Sing Out! has always worked to preserve and support.
The second arm of our book division is Legacy Books, an impressive resource for hard-to-find and out-of-print folk music books, both songbooks and the best in books about the music and traditions. Legacy Books began in the early 1960s, under the leadership of Lillian Krelove, and grew over the years to be one of the primary grassroots resources for folklorists and music educators anywhere. When Lillian decided to retire, her huge catalog of great books passed on to Sing Out! as we took up her cause to make these titles available to our community.
